The vision of Intuescope RED GmbH is to develop solutions for faster and safer medical endoscopy and colonoscopy.

For decades flexible endoscopy has been the gold standard for cancer screening and for minimal invasive diagnosis of the intestinal system.

 

Flexible endoscopes have several problems and technical insufficiencies:

1. The field of view of currently available endoscopes is limited to 120-170°. Dead spots, which can’t be seen during the procedure, are inevitable and lead to an approximate 1-in-10 miss rate of lesions.

2. The current steering mechanism is a two-axis analogue system developed in the 19^th century. This mechanism is lacking in precision and ergonomics. 

3. The image analysis is done by the naked-eye of the physician, therefore, the quality of the whole procedure solely resides on the doctor’s experience, patience, concentration and attention level.

4. The insertion of the 1.6-meter flexible endoscope and forward motion through the curvy intestine is performed by the physician and/or nurse physically pushing forward the endoscope. This results in more effort for the physician or nurse and much more discomfort and pain for the patient. This old mode of operation also generates loops of the endoscope within the bowel, which in turn consume more operating time, generate more pain, and potentially lead to failure of the whole procedure.

 

We are developing solutions to each one of those problems. Each solution represents a viable stand-alone technology. In the final stage of the development, the combination of all our products will fulfill our vision of a fully automated flexible endoscopy.
